What is reality? Well according to google, the meaning of reality is ‘the state of things as they actually exist opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them’. Although I understand the concept of the meaning of reality, I don’t entirely agree that this is true.
If reality is ‘the state of things as they actually exist’ then how can one explain everyone’s different views on society, politics, democracy and life in general. It would make more sense for the definition of reality to be ‘the state of things as they are notionally perceived’.
One’s reality is perceived through life experiences, beliefs, religion and knowledge which is instilled into their mind throughout the different stages of their lifetime. These factors then become one’s internal dialogue; what one believes and how one thinks, behaves and acts.
I’m certain these factors will significantly vary between people, therefore, creating a different perspective on how one perceives reality; essentially altering the state of things “as they actually exist” to “as they are notionally perceived”.
The beauty of our reality being notionally perceived is the ability to change it by simply choosing how we wish to perceive it through thought.
