Planning a trip to the Maldives can be an exhilarating experience. With the pristine beaches, the white sandy shores, and the serene tranquillity, there is a lot to look forward to. However, it can be stressful wondering whether you will be overpacked or underpacked. Fear not, because this comprehensive guide on what to pack for a week in the Maldives will resolve all your packing dilemmas.

Clothing Essentials

Due to the proximity to the equator and the oceanic influence, Maldives has a tropical climate with high levels of humidity all year around. Cloth materials made of natural fibres like cotton and linen are recommended as they do not trap heat and allow air to flow through the fabric. Additionally, flowier clothing patterns like tank tops, skirts, shorts and dresses will help you stay comfortable in the heat. Some fine dining restaurants may require more formal wear, so make sure to pack some casual but chic clothes like a maxi sundress for women and a linen collared shirt and trousers for men.

Swimsuits are among the most essential items to pack for the Maldives since you will be spending a lot of time at the beach and pool. Pack at least three to four swimsuits in pretty tropical prints to fit the beachy vibes, which can be worn interchangeably throughout the week. Don't forget to pack a cover-up like a kaftan or a sarong that you can wear while lounging on the sandy beaches or relaxing on a pool bed.

Flip-flops are the only type of footwear you will need for the beach, but they aren't durable for long excursions. So, if you plan on exploring around town, pack a pair of open-toed sandals that you can also wear to dine and sports shoes if you want to participate in more strenuous activities like hiking.

Beach and Pool Essentials

A spacious and sturdy beach bag is highly recommended to fit all your essentials. Since you can never know when the tide might come and take you by surprise, opt for a waterproof bag to protect your belongings.

Some non-essentials that would be nice to carry around your bag are a book or two because even the luxury of staying in the best Maldives resort cannot beat the comfort of curling into a good book and relaxing on the beach. You can also add a little fashionable touch to your beach get-up by packing a sun hat and sunglasses.

The Maldives is famous for its rich marine life, so if you plan on snorkelling, you might want to pack your own gear for ease and convenience; however, if that is too much of a hassle, most resorts including the Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon offer equipment rental.

While resorts do provide basic toiletries, the saltwater on the beaches can be damaging to your hair; thus, packing some travel-sized bottles of your everyday hair and skin care is recommended. Sunscreen is a must-have on a trip to the Maldives, preferably one that is between 30-50 SPF and reef-safe so that it can protect your skin from the harsh UV rays while also being environmentally friendly. If you have sensitive skin that is prone to sunburn a soothing aloe vera gel can come in handy.

Miscellaneous items

Make sure to carry a small first aid kit with basic first aid care and essential medications since navigating healthcare in an unknown country can be scary and confusing. While on the topic of safety, be sure to pack a portable charger since having a working phone at all times is essential, especially if you are a solo traveller.

Now pack your bags and get ready for a memorable vacation in the Maldives!
