The Maldives is a dream vacation for many, and rightly so. It is one of the most luxurious places on earth and is filled with plenty of things to do and see. If you are thinking of going to the Maldives here are a few reasons that should finally make up your mind about visiting the place.

The beaches

The beaches will be some of the best you have ever seen in your life! They are almost divine, with an aura of calm and tranquillity that is otherworldly. The coastlines of the Indian Ocean are warm, pristine, and resplendent. During the mornings, the soft light and gentle waves are perfect for swimming, lounging on the beach, or snorkelling. Towards sunset, the sky gets inundated with a range of colours like orange, pink, red, and purple for some of the best sunsets you will ever see in your life.

Coral reefs and marine life

The seas around the Maldives are teeming with vibrant aquatic life such as manta rays, tropical fish, barracudas, and endangered sea turtles. The coral life in the Maldives is among the best in the world. You can swim among the colourful coral reefs in temperate waters without needing to wear a wet suit, as the warm waters of the Indian Ocean are perfect for this. The fish on the coral reefs are friendly and used to people. A unique location is the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, which is home to one of the finest coral covers in the world and is a top snorkelling destination. The Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve is the seventh-largest coral reef in the world and has over 250 types of corals and over 1,200 kinds of fish. The awe-inspiring whale sharks, as well as the smaller reef sharks, can easily be found around many of the atolls in the Maldives. Sharks can be found in the neighbouring lagoons of many island resorts. Places like Maaya Thila, Baa, and Ari atolls are considered ideal spots to encounter them up close. You can also observe these creatures during their feeding times at certain resorts.

Water sports

The Maldives offers a wide variety of water activities, making it an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts. You can try kayaking, jet-skiing, canoeing, sea bobbing, surfing, snorkelling, rollerblading (also known as X-Jet Blades), windsurfing, and more. Most top resorts provide in-house instructors for these activities. Even if you've never tried a water sport before, this is the perfect opportunity to learn.

Bioluminescent water

This phenomenon occurs only in a few select locations around the world. If you ever find yourself in the Maldives, be sure to visit Vaadhoo Island in Raa Atoll. There, you will have the chance to witness a sea of stars in the ocean! The plankton in the water releases luminous substances when the waves move, creating a stunning sight. This is a defence mechanism to ward off fish and other potential threats. It's truly a rare and breathtaking sight!

Accommodation

One of the main draws to the Maldives is the super luxurious accommodation which is among the most expensive in the world. They have all sorts of fancy additions, from underwater restaurants to gyms! The range includes exquisite overwater villas, sea-view bungalows, suites, garden rooms etc. The likes of Hard Rock Hotel Maldives are among the top choices available when it comes to accommodation in the Maldives.

Island excursions

With hundreds of islands in the archipelago, it is the best way to get acquainted with Maldivian culture and traditions. Tours are organised with the resorts and a guide will accompany guests to the best islands and beaches on the atoll.
