NFL Power Ranking

Week 5

By Niko BanksPublished 9 months ago Updated 9 months ago 4 min read

It's time for the week 5 Power Rankings, but first, let's acknowledge the teams that have fallen out of the top ten. The Cowboys were once atop the Power Rankings, and last week, they were barely holding at one, but now they are off the list completely. The Ravens have been in the top ten all year, usually at number 4, but they had fallen off completely in week five. The Bills just made the power rankings for the first time two weeks ago, and they moved up to the top 5 last week. Now, the Bills have fallen right back off the list.

10.Jaguars

The Jaguars made the power rankings in week one because they beat the Colts, and after a promising appearance in the playoffs, they were expected to take the next step. However, they stalled, and it looked like the Jaguars were falling off. However, the Jaguar's defense has awoken, and now that they have come alive, the Jaguars are forced again. They just recently got their most impressive win of the season against the Bills. The only limit to the Jaguars is the offense, and that's a great thing when you consider how much potential it has.

9. Steelers

Steelers have been really unpredictable this year. Last year, they fired out of the blocks, beating the Bengals in a war of a game. This year, they got destroyed by the 49ers, and then they seemed to get their footing back against the Browns and Raiders, or so it seemed. The Steeler's defense completely disappeared against a rookie, CJ Stroud. However, the Steelers rebounded by beating Lamar Jackson and the Ravens and rising to the top of the league. The Steelers have had their ups and downs, but they have proved that at their best, they are a danger to ANY team in their way.

8. Seahawks

The Seahawks were on a bye, but they have still moved up in the rankings. As the season goes on and the field thins out, the Seahawks look even better. They have a solid defense, a great running game, and an average pass game. The Seahawks are solid all around, and in this year's NFL, that could take them a long way.

7. Saints

The Saints have just crushed the Patriots and returned to the power rankings. Also, if you look at the Saint's season overall, it's been going really well. Their first loss only came because Carr got injured, and their second loss was Carr's first game back, and it was against a divisional opponent, and anything can happen in those games. The Saints have Kamara back, and they will only get better from here. The Saints are a big threat in the NFC. They just aren't getting a ton of attention right now, but they are coming.

6. Bucs

Of all the 3-1 teams on bye or 3-2 teams, it doesn't get any better than the Bucs. They trounced the Saints, and they have excellent pieces on both sides. And Baker Mayfield is having a career resurgence. The Bucs aren't that far removed from their Super Bowl roster. I'm interested to see how far their talent can take them. So far, they look very promising.

5. The Chiefs

The Chiefs started off the season rough, and they haven't looked amazing in most of their games, and yet here they are in the top five of the NFL. The Chiefs continue to win, and the NFL is in a war of attrition. As injuries mount and teams ebb and flow, the Chiefs keep stacking wins. Plus, the Chiefs are far from their final form. If they can remain this competitive while struggling, then the NFL will be in a lot of trouble when the Chiefs get in gear.

4. Dolphins

The Dolphins were knocked out of the top spot when they lost to the Bills. However, after falling to six now, the Dolphins are back in the top 5. Aside from that one loss to the Bills, the Dolphins have looked great and continue to win. The Dolphins have the most dangerous offense in the league. They have Super Bowl potential. It all depends on how well the Dolphins defense can play.

3. Lions

The Lions have taken the next step. They don't have to gut out victories every week. They can, but they can also smother teams and act as the dominant team. The Lions have an explosive offense but a great run game and stifling defense. The Lions are the best and most complete team outside of the undefeated teams. The Lions are real Super Bowl contenders this year.

2. Eagles

The Eagles are undefeated and remain one of the top teams in the NFL. The only thing holding them back is the fact that they still haven't played at their best. However, it's a testament to how good the Eagles are that they remain undefeated regardless.

1. 49ers

The 49ers are the scariest team in the NFL. At the current moment, they look indestructible. Usually, as time goes on, teams show some weakness, but the 49ers haven't done that. Their QB doesn't make mistakes, and he never loses. Their running back is the best in the game and in the running for the MVP. The defense is good enough to win games on their own, and then there is Kyle Shanahan, one of the best offensive-minded head coaches in the game. The 49ers took a very talented Cowboys team and made them look like the New England Patriots. If the 49ers stay healthy, I don't know who can stop them.
