Winchester Brothers

An Inspired Poem

By Emily SchwartzPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

Blurred movement, blurred memories

These fragments spill to the floor,

Mixing with the blood, sweat and tears.

Made it this far under the weight

Of failed saviors and gaping wounds.

Grab and run, don’t look back.

Don’t breath in the smoke,

Don’t turn back into the flames,

Don’t ask questions.

Look after him, keep him safe.

Survive by the skill and luck

Save others, don’t bother to save yourself

It’s already too late.

Marked for destinies apart, separate here.

So close this time

But it ends with a knife in the back.

Sell the soul, let the demons keep it.

There are more important things.

Please don’t leave, this plea,

If there’s no you, there’s no me.

Scraping up the walls, crawling across the wooden floor,

The biting, gnawing, scratching begins

It ends hastily in the wake of closer inspection.

This might be a missed connection,

Or an infestation of one’s sins.

Either way, the shout proclaims, Please, no more.

These internal words threaten harsh suffocation,

Each unspoken letter a twisting strife.

Chaos reigns high inside, no ease.

These voices whisper on the breeze.

This is a pitiful excuse for life.

Now suffer the eternal damnation

Of a man torn apart from one end to another.

Torn, ripped, ravaged but still, it’s no fuss.

This unspoken words are nothing but a clutter.

But at the end of the line, he shall mutter,

I am proud of us.

All for the sake of a brother.

There are other quiet murmurs:

Carry on, you must carry on.

There is no rest for the damned.
