Who are we to say
that grownups can’t go out to play?
If all our deeds are merely lies,
why can’t you see it in my eyes?
I cried for you and lied for you
when everything was shiny new.
As strangers we had cast a glimmer
of light on heaven; the light is dimmer.
A voice cried truth, we looked to see,
each believing in sweet mystery.
You threw me up into the sun,
laughing, we had just begun.
We knew it then,
what could have been.
Sad words for those whose dreams
were angels flying on silken wings
among the clouds, but now they’re gone,
gossamer threads upon the lawn
