What I Remember

(Selective memory)

I remember every part

Of every argument

Every word

You stabbed my heart with

Everywhere you touched me

And your fingers lingered.

I remember everywhere you took me

Every car you showed me

Every mountain you climbed with me

And how you pushed me to the edge.

I remember everything you taught me

(like how to drive)

And everyone you introduced me to

(your mom).

Because I chose to forget

The chokehold you had on me

Your hands around my neck

Pinning me against the wall

So I would gasp for air

Without you.

I chose to forget how you killed me

So you could revive me

And keep my heart

Because you thought it was yours.

I called you savior

But I never needed saving

Only from you.
