We Don't Want To Go

A poem inspired by a true story.

Oh no,

Tick, tick, tick, tick

That feeling that comes

It hit you like a mule kick

By Anderson Rian on Unsplash

Run and hide

You would

You're smarter than that

But wish you could

Stand and fight

That's what you'll do

Because it's what's right

No matter what it takes

By Dan Burton on Unsplash

What others have done

Seems so impossible

But you're fights have only just begun

You're trying to stay here, for someone

Slowly into the quicksand, your mind will go

Held not by life but by fear

Nobody but you will ever really know

The screams of the little child within you

By Rendy Novantino on Unsplash

Find it within

Something you must

For you to win

Your fighter must emerge

To soldier through

It will take great courage

You must find it within you

It's the only way

Image made with Microsoft 365 Designer

You're piercing the veil

One foot on the other side

For inside this fight, you must not fail

Continue to rage until there's a good ending in sight

Thanks for reading. Each year, millions of people are diagnosed with something scary and horrible. Cancer claims the lives of millions worldwide, particularly if it's metastatic and extensive. Going through that, and learning how bad it is, it's extremely scary.

Cancer survivor here. Glad I read this one. I really like poetry that's this kind of stream of consciousness. Thank you.

Nice poem encouraging us all to keep soldiering on - because really, what other choice do we have?🤔
