A poem for my uncle

Oh, don't reveal your own sincere affection to anyone.

That you ever consumed a drop, participated in a two-up school, camped out in a sneaky grog store, or had a terrible girl take care of you—that you ever descended to such a low level.

But she saved your life, and only you and your old friend Harry are aware of it.

They used to refer to you as "Billy the Link" back then, and it saddens me to recall the difficult times when it required three police officers and a pimp to pair the Link.

They address you as "Mister Linkhurst" now, and your kitchen garden is flourishing. No one in your family is aware of this, but your Uncle Harry is.

Oh, don't tell your beautiful young bride.

A "straight" girl's method of stabbing

Oh, never tell your own good wife, For a tender heart has she, Of the girl that loved and the girl that lies In the graveyard there by the sea! It was not for his "manners" she loved the cad, It was not for his verse or prose, But the pity she felt for the poor thing.

With pick and shovel you fought it out Where the red sirocco blows. And no one knew in the gang except you - But your old mate Harry knows.

The good girl left me with a broken heart, but I believe their souls have already crossed paths.

We do not release the heart's cries.

with each wind that blows;

You are currently covering up a grief from someone, but Uncle Harry is aware of it.
