I earned

I fought my parents.

They were too strict.

I fought the system.

It was too corrupt.

I fought society.

They claimed I belonged to them.

I fought the people who thought they knew better.

They were pretentious.

But someone I wasn’t ready to fight

Was me.

The battle of looking in the mirror.

The battle of being good enough.

The battle to try again when I didn’t want to.

The battle of mind and heart.

The doubt and the guilt and the sleepless nights.

So when they give out trophies

The only one I want to get

Is the one I get for fighting me.
