The Long Road Home

A story of rediscovering connection

By Ravi DPublished about a month ago 1 min read

"The weight of unsaid words hangs between us."

"I know. It's been... difficult."

"Difficult? That's an understatement, don't you think?"

(A heavy sigh) "You're right. It's been hell."

"Why now, after all this time?"

"Because I can't bear the silence anymore. Can you?"

(Pause).... A sharp intake of breath.

"No. But I've grown accustomed to it."

"That's what scares me the most."

"What do you mean?"

"That we've let this... this chasm between us become normal."

Eyes meet, searching.

"So what now? We can't just pretend the years didn't happen."

"No, we can't. But maybe we can build something new from the rubble."

"Is that even possible?"

"I don't know. But I'm willing to try if you are."

A moment of hesitation. Then, softly: "Why?"

An old photo album

"Because I found Mom's old photo album yesterday."

"And?"

"And I realized I couldn't remember the last time I saw you smile."

Silence. A tear quickly brushed away.

"It's been a long time since I had a reason to."

"Then let's find one. Together."

A tentative nod. The first step on a long road home.

wow, that dialogue is out of this world, sounds like it's coming out of a movie.
