Sun-Kissed Rubies: The Taste of Forever

Summer's Patch

By Rebecca Lynn IveyPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

A ruby crown on emerald leaves,

A scent that promised summer's glee.

Small fingers, stained a crimson sheen,

The taste of childhood, sweet and keen.

Sun-warmed patches, green and low,

A hidden treasure, row on row.

Kneeling deep in dew-kissed grass,

A berry feast that wouldn't last.

Plump and juicy, bursting bright,

An explosion on the tongue's delight.

Tangy nectar, stained my chin,

A taste that lingers deep within.

Now, supermarket shelves I roam,

But plastic punnets lack that home.

The memory lingers, warm and true,

Of summer days and skies of blue.

Sunlight dappled, fingers stained,

Through emerald rows a treasure chained.

Strawberry patch, a summer dream,

Where ruby jewels, bathed in sun, gleam.

Warm earth beneath, a canvas green,

Knees scraped and grass, a joyful scene.

No bowl, no spoon, just hand to mouth,

Oh to be a child, summer in the south.

Each bite a dance, a burst of bright,

Tangy and sweet, a pure delight.

Crimson juice on cheeks a smile,

Grandmother's laugh, a memory's mile.

Time may rush, the seasons fly,

But summer's taste, it cannot die.

A strawberry patch, childhood in the sun,

A taste of love, forever won.

Though time has passed, the feeling stays,

A rush of joy on sunny days.

I close my eyes and see once more,

The patch, the sun, the sweetness I adore.

Grandmother's smile, a knowing wink,

As sugar stains on faces sink.

A bowl of cream, a sprinkle light,

A perfect end to summer's night.

The taste, a whisper, soft and faint,

A childhood dream, a sweet complaint.

For though the berries may not last,

The memory stays, a love unsurpassed.
