i loved him like the sun.
i spilled my rays into his pockets
so he could carry my heart.
i traced his face with gold.
i held him in my arms
so he would never grow cold.
i wished to protect him
from the darkness that fell at nightfall
but i was powerless
for he was the night.
i loved him like the sun.
all day, every day.
but he said my light burned
a hole in his chest
and his skin grew raw
from my touch
because it was too deep
and it hurt his eyes
so he had to go.
i still love him.

The imagery of burning through someone from love is so powerful. Beautiful images as always!
Brilliant use of metaphor. Loved your poem. So wonderfully well-written.
The imagery of the sun as a metaphor for intense, unwavering love is both powerful and evocative. The contrast between the warmth of the sun and the coldness of the night captures the pain of loving someone who cannot fully embrace that love. Your words resonated deeply with me, and the emotions conveyed are profoundly moving. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt piece.
It's definitely his loss. Fantastic poem!
