Mind’s gears turning slowly
Pushing through the dark molasses
Poured by wounded soldiers fighting a forever war.
They see purpose in the struggle between brokenness and normal.
Gears sticking. Then stuck.
Vibrating softly now. Going nowhere.
The struggle to reset and return reveals things done and left undone.
Time frozen while life is repaired and patched.
Always the war continues.
Moments of subversion
Small victories
Small defeats
Endless but not without purpose
Soon the gears start to move again
Release
Surrender is not an option in this forever war.

His Haibun
He does not like poetry; I write it anyway and do not tell him. It's true his face is not a poet's face. It is round and open, youthful; too apt to be compared to the sun. His nose is neat. It is impossible to imagine him smoking a cigarette, terse, full of cheekbones and tension. His warmth burns my fingertips. I am here for his fascinating body, the haphazard freckles I touch one by one; he is here for my eyes, just my eyes. A sunbeam sneaks through the curtains and pierces us both, sizzling the spices of his skin. I inhale and wrap myself in him. He kisses my eyes.

The Great Uncoupling of 2229
“I realize there are still aspects of humanity that my kind cannot understand or appreciate….” The soft, airy voice resonating from the orb that trailed Teyhx through the hallway of her dorm pleaded with her to see reason. Though, ultimately, the decision was not hers anyways.

I like the link between mental health and a battle or war, where sometimes just persevering is enough. “purpose in the struggle between brokenness and normal.” this is a great line Archery Owl.
Very vivid depiction of those moments where you have to take pause, even if you don't want to.

Forever wars seem to plague our Earth. The molasses imagery is fabulous. Purposeful actions, tiny steps, win the prize (and hopefully peace eventually) as you depict in this poem!
