Once, a bottle held a piece of paper.
Cast adrift on the waves for another to find,
A beautiful drawing, for a perfect stranger.
But the bottle's fate was not so kind.
Something happened, and the bottle broke.
A rock, a bird, or a two-great wave.
The paper and ink inside were soaked,
The message inside could not be saved.
But the pieces of glass were flung through the waves
Drifting and dancing on current and tide.
Worn down by the sand and time and fishing boat graves
Until smooth ocean glass came to rest at the seaside.
A journey unmeasured, but that it was long
Finally ended in hands unknown
They did not know where the sea glass begun
But they would give it new life of it's own.
