My Peace

By Alaine HayPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Labor…

Her entrance into this world, was one of the most unbearable experiences of my life.

Unexpected. All alone! Her conception perceived as strife.

But the knowledge of her existence, lead to a tangent on my path

Instantaneously she was loved, the best equation in my math.

The answer to all my questions, long before she was conceived

Everything I ever wanted, all that I could ever need.

I thought for her I could be better; a second chance… my 2.0

But that’s not how it works; trust me, by now I know!

Her mission was not to save me,

To be my saving grace.

I’ve learned that’s not her purpose,

Not her burden, not her place.

From hearing her first heartbeat, to when they placed her on my chest.

I realized that my job, was protecting her, nothing less.

The sound of her voice saying “Mama”, watching her peacefully fall asleep

Knowing I’ll see her in the morning,

That’s what peace is now for me.
