Let us pass this around

It fills pages, and makes a special kind of sound

Let us look at all the kinds of applause

Clicks, shares, lists, epigraphs, laws

Now turn it over, press play

Yes, these are the tools of back in the day

Tape with a pencil controlled

Beautiful and powerful and new because it is old

But this is not a riddle

It’s less about the ends than the middle

Neither love nor anger

But a celebration of every kind of hunger

Because there are words for this

For the snap, the blink, the belly-rumble, the hiss

But if it were something we could name

We wouldn’t need so much paper to maim, and maim, and maim
