Prompted Poem: Peace
To go to war
with my very circumstance
and fight it to the death, or
to give each moment a chance
and hear what it has to say?
Sway in the breeze,
or acknowledge that hurricane
across the way?
How many degrees
of separation from the pain,
from what goes on outside,
does it take to seize
a tranquil moment in this day?
Just one:
the uncanny membrane
of thought.
A great tumult of monopolies,
distrust and animosity
lies beyond the windowpane,
a deep, collective throe.
But the choice to face it with placidity
is ever ours to make.
Peace, with will and responsibility,
we may take with us, wherever we go.
About the Creator
Jacob Sherman
The desire to read, and perhaps to write, should be cultivated and nurtured with care throughout every stage of life. For my part I will inject what strangeness and truth that I can into our written history. Expect no constants but honesty.
