Perhaps we ended before we had even begun.

Once, love was a thing to be cherished.

Once, we sang with affection aflutter.

Once, time was in abundance to give.

Once, your ring was there for all to see.

Once, kisses brimmed between us.

Once, I gave you every smile I had.

Once, marriage meant oneness.

Once, you didn't look at me like that.

Once, anger didn't simmer in the air.

Once, you whispered I love you's in my ear.

Once, the world sat waiting at our feet.

Once, I recognized the person before me.

Once, disappointment didn't linger.

Once, we were happy to be together.

Once, we wore our promises on our sleeves.

Once, you were just a touch away.

Once, you didn't leave me in the dust.

Once, I believed in every word you said.

Once, I didn't feel the end coming too soon.
