Poem: "The Calm Before the Storm"
I'm gripping the steering while so tight I can see the bones in my knuckles gleam..
I've been spending time in an
in-between place lately
like a seasonal standstill
or like how hot boy summer ended
but sweater weather hasn't started
Each morning I splash my face
with handfuls of warm water
reminders of nighttime embraces
though sometimes much hotter
But I'm terrified of catching feelings
because I remember all the things it makes me do
and even though I try to hold it all back
its so much better to be honest with you
I've got goosebumps on every inch of my skin
and with bated breath I quiver within
gambling my feelings in this hotshot lottery
rogue in the sheets feigning camaraderie
I'm gripping the steering wheel so tight
I can see the bones in my knuckles gleam
if I could floor it any faster
the crimes committed will be truer than my dreams
And I want it so badly every morning and night
I'm over here shaking
to be the grey between
all of this black and white
I sit back calmly, just to be chill
even though deep down I'm craving the thrill
of falling so fast I can't hear myself think
let alone catch myself before I fly off the brink
extinct, would be my woes of the old
if intensely the feelings I continue to hold
are set loose and fall out from my lips
but I just hope that moment doesn't hit
I've got the slightest inkling chief, that this isn't it
more matters of myself are completely at risk
see, I've been spending time
in an in-between place lately
and whatever is on the horizon
isn't here yet to take me
