Open Palms

A Poem on Letting Go

Introduction

"Let it go," is the advice often given by well-meaning relatives or friends when they    witness us explode over someone else's infraction. We have to agree with them- it's difficult and pointless to remain angry over a trespass that is irreversible. But, as with everything else, it's easier said than done.

The open palm is a symbol of letting things go. How do we release control over things that we, well, have no control over?

Hard as it is, we try to accept what we cannot change and, for no one's sake but our own, release grudges. It's also necessary to seek professional help or support when necessary. Enjoy this free verse.

Open palms

without

release the

chirping bird

that wants freedom

They know

that the bird

Will not feel

their soothing

grasp

The hands

Stroke itst

their grip

loosens

Bird flies

Freedom granted

Below previously

Dark clouds

of rancour

Hands

The loose palms

Ache

No more.
