New Year New You?

Samuel’s Thought’s the Blog

The definition of a resolution is a firm commitment to do something or not do something -- therefore, with New Year's officially being today, I wanted to know what are your thoughts on New Year's resolutions? I'll share my views on them -- for starters, I do not think they are stupid. I actually love goal setting and also realizations of awareness when something doesn't serve you anymore, to stop doing it. However, I do believe that these things don't have to wait until a whole new calendar year comes around to begin action. For example, if it's September 6 and I realize that eating unhealthy is causing me to gain weight and is just overall not good, why wait until January 1st of the next year to take action?

Now, in defense, I realize that some people still may need time to prep for a change, etc. But if time isn't needed to make the change, make it that day! I also love the energy behind New Year's resolutions. It's almost like a universal consciousness connection of many people in the world setting intentions into the universe. You sort of feel the energy of change and shift happening, similar to when everyone is praying at the same time, etc.

My biggest thing with New Year's resolutions really comes down to this: you can be intentional in setting goals or boundaries, but without an action plan and commitment to keeping it, it really isn't a resolution, it's just words. And we know words are not actions. So, happy New Year to all! And if you have set resolutions, that's 50% of the job. Good work. But for it to actually be a resolution, action and commitment must be put in motion to achieve it. Good luck and Godspeed. Happy New Year, folks.
