My Saber

Meeting the Enemy

By Dan R FowlerPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

My Saber

In the darkness, I stand with blood-stained saber drawn,

And keep to myself, speechless, waiting to greet the dawn.

It’s not the first time I’ve stood seeking solace, contemplating,

Yet, it is the first time this day, this new day I stand anticipating.

My yesterdays' battles are but memories fallen aside,

And in them, in their victories, I no longer abide.

For it is on this day, this moment in time,

That I’ll stretch forth my faith toward faces unkind.

I used to agree that most people were kind,

With their smiles, their hellos, each seemingly refined.

But unbeknownst to me those that I’ve found,

Have portrayed inward demons and anger profound.

So, I raise my saber at the ready, and forward I march,

As if I see before me a majestic and gallant Roman arch.

From ahead I see my opponents smiling back at me,

Filled with rage, contempt, and refusing to flee.

With the dawn’s sun rays reflecting on its blade,

I raise high my saber, sharpened and unafraid.

For today is my day and I shall not waste it,

On those who are callous, ungrateful, and unfit.
