Mourning Shores

May This Struggle Grant Me Kindness

Assuage me of this one thing

Belie his memory if you must, because I

Cannot bare the burden to grieve someone who was a

Good man.

Everything hits all at once, the Universe has declared

"Fuck your attempts at a productive New Year."

Gather up all your imaginary spoons, the IOUs of their ghosts

Heavy is the heart which mourns beyond itself

I cannot stop the second hand grief

Just for a moment, in this stage of denial, can we pretend that we

Knew nothing of him?

Lambast our minds when we think a kind thought?

Maybe that is who he really was

Nobody who we should mourn, and yet --

Oh God, how that hurt to even type.

Please forgive the transgression, I really do know that he was a

Quality sort of person.

Reality is painful when it sets in, like the

Sting of a blood draw when the phlebotomist punctures through the vein

Transcranial shockwaves that awaken you in the night with a jolt.

Until the ache subsides, until the stab wound closes

Vast oceans of tears and memories and rage and sorrow

Whip around in the Aether

Xebec ship, carry me safely over this river Styx

Your embrace will protect me on the journey to this

Zenith of peace, where all cataclysms shall end.
