May, you were a cruel month

A dirge

May, you were a cruel month,

With your heady scent of spring,

Your skies of cloudless blue,

And your breezes warm and sing.

You brought the birds to sing,

And the flowers to bloom,

But all I could do was cry

And wish that you were gone.

You brought heartbreaks and doom,

And you only made it worse,

With your reminders of all

That I would never see again.

So go away, May,

And take your flowers and birds,

And your skies of cloudless blue,

And your breezes warm and sing.

I don't want to see you again,

Until I've healed my heart,

And until I can remember

The joy that you once brought.
