Hi.

How does one start?

Do I start here?

Or maybe here??

What about...

---------------------------->over there???

Ha. Anyway. I've two more poems to share from a poetry class I took back in 2002. These ones are a lot more fun than the last ones I shared. ( https://vocal.media/poets/poetry-for-study )

Do you find it easier to write when you have a prompt? I do. It was so much easier to write for a class than to write on my own. I don't know why, because I genuinely enjoy writing. I suppose, now, I just lack the motivation. I ask myself, "what is this for?" I do believe that if I can help anyone by writing, well, that would be the darndest awesomest thing ever! But, then, I suppose, one must garner a following... and so after considering that, I think, "forget it." How can someone like me garner a following? (Yet, here I am...)

"What does 'like me' mean, you ask?"

Quiet, reserved

You got to know me?

Oops, was I too loud, now?

Yes? Sorry...

I'll go now...

No? Great!

Let's play!

Wait, let me grab my kids!

You see that slide over there?

I wanna go down it...

But there are people....

There are people everywhere...

So, no, I won't go now... I'm too old.

What?

No such thing?

Are you sure?

I'm fucking 41! There's such a thing.

Trust me.

Trust you?!

God, that's hard to do...

I shouldn't care what others think?

But they're so mean...

And the world is scary...

What? You'll go with me?!?!

You'll go down that slide over there with all those people....

WITH ME?!

OMG YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND EVER I LOVE YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH LET'S GO RIGHT NOW!

WWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that really sums me up pretty well.... that came out of no where.... So, I guess that just means I'm scared...

Well, anyway, let's get to it.

For the first poem, following this, we were given the challenge of writing a blues song, and seeing as how I'm a bit silly at times, I decided to write about the cartoon "Blues Clues." It was fun. Please sing along now!

Blues Clues

I know a dog

Her name is blue

She helps poor Steve

To find him a clue

They got those looking for those clues blues

Oh, yeah, baby, they got them looking for those clues blues

And, poor doggy, gotta help the man to find him some clues

Poor Steve n' Blue

They don't know what to do

They ask everyone they know

To tell them what is true

They ask the Salt n' Pepper shakers

But they don't know a thing

They ask the kitty cat

But he's busy with his string

They got those looking for those clues blues

Oh, yeah, baby, they got them looking for those clues blues

And, poor doggy, gotta help the man for to find him some clues

They go to the mailbox

To see what he has to say

But all he knows

He's having a gay ol' day

They go to the clock

But all he tells is time

They go to Magenta

But she's sleepin' silent as a mime

They got those looking for those clues blues

Oh, yeah, baby, they got them looking for those clues blues

And, poor doggy, gotta help the man to find him some clues

This second one I wrote when I had cataracts. I had cataracts for about 38 years, I think. I was born with them and eventually they got so bad that they had to be removed. Sunlight was one of the worst things with cataracts. It made everything so bright that I had to squint my eyes to see and my eyes would hurt. But, this poem is a light-hearted tale of finding ways to endure the sunlight.

Anteojos del Sol (Sunglasses)

The sun is so bright

so bright as can be

I don't know how I'll learn to drive

with its Golden Rays shining down on me

They pierce my eyes, like Jocasta's golden pins

that pierced the sight of Oedipus

And, now you see, I cannot see

with the sun shining down on me

But that's not to say I don't like the sun

why, I love its bright beauty

It's so warm and it gives me energy

It makes the plants grow and the flowers bloom

it makes all the metal seem shiny

It's just a shame

that I cannot see

with its rays piercing down on me

Oh, lookie here, what's this I have?

they're my sunglass, you see

Well, maybe now, If I put them on

I can see with the sun shining down on me

Would you look at that, now that's much better

now that I can finally see

I don't quite understand why this happens to me

why I become blind in the shining golden sea

Maybe my cataracts, I don't know

but I'm sure glad to see. :)

Seriously, I submitted schoolwork with a smiley face at the end. ^_^

I think I'll continue to post things I've written before and hope that inspires me to continue writing new things.
