Karoonjhar: A Heritage under Threat

Poetic Expression

By Fly AlonePublished about a month ago 1 min read

Recently, I spent some time in the foothills of the majestic Karoonjhar mountains and Nangar Parker.

As a visual artist, I was captivated by their beauty. Each stone is a face etched with history.

These stones cradle caves that shelter countless birds, support diverse plant species, and attract migratory birds.

Ancient Jain temples stand as silent witnesses to a rich cultural past.

When it rains, children play in the natural water reservoirs, and peacocks dance joyfully.

This place is a natural wonder potentially 5 billion years old.

But now, this paradise is under threat. The announcement of granite excavation will legalize the destruction of these mountains for profit, destroy the fragile ecosystem, displace wildlife, and erase the cultural heritage that has stood for millennia.

We are about to lose the unique beauty, biodiversity, and historical essence of the Karoonjhar mountains forever.

This isn't just a local issue; it's a global tragedy in the making.

It's a theft from our future generations. Not only is a natural wonder being stolen from them, but also a space for inspiration and relaxation.

The rulers didn't stand true to the promise they made to protect this irreplaceable natural and cultural treasure. It seems it's too late.

Note: Pakhee is a visual artist. The video and description belong to her. I have just transcribed it.

"destroy the fragile ecosystem, displace wildlife, and erase the cultural heritage". Total destruction to wild life, environment and humanity. Love it, thanks for sharing.
