Footsteps

In the woods, footsteps will follow,

Hovering near the frozen lake.

Though it's nothing but a shadow.

***

Hidden within the tree hollow.

Can a shadow make the earth quake?

In the woods, footsteps will follow.

***

Dwelling in its winter burrow,

Watching the still woods wide awake.

Though it's nothing but a shadow.

***

Tucked safely away to wallow,

Its weight made the tree branches ache.

In the woods, footsteps will follow.

***

But it was known for its sorrow,

Unaware of its one mistake.

Though it's nothing but a shadow.

***

The worry should be gone by morrow,

And fully dissolved by daybreak .

In the woods, footsteps will follow.

Though it's nothing but a shadow.
