Inclusion of "Prose Poem" Genre Tag in "Tag Box"

To Vocal.Media Team

By Fly AlonePublished 6 days ago 3 min read

You may be wondering why I am writing this to you. There is a compelling reason: while Vocal.Media is special to me because it provides easy access to my readers and fellow creators, it lacks the tag/option for "Prose Poem" in the tag list to inform readers what the story is about. This missing tag/category means that when I share a prose poem on Vocal.Media, it does not reach the targeted audience directly. Instead, I have to use the category of "Free Verse," which is quite different from "Prose Poem."

Dear Vocal.Media Team,

I am a poet. English is not my native language, nor am I familiar with the meter settings of poetry in English. Therefore, I prefer to write Prose Poems. As you may know, contemporary poetry is increasingly being written in the genre of the prose poem. It has become an international genre, composed by poets from almost all nations.

Every nation and culture has its own literary traditions and creative genres, which symbolize its uniqueness. However, the prose poem is different. It belongs to the international fraternity, empowering everyone to access poetry. Many people around the world have wanted to compose poetry but were unable to do so due to certain limitations of traditional poetry. With the advent of the prose poem, this scenario has changed. Prose poetry only requires poetic thought or essence and does not follow restricted rhyming schemes, rhythm, or principles of prosody. This quality allows everyone to express themselves poetically.

The prose poem is a distinct form of poetry that effortlessly combines the imagery and emotional profundity of poetry with a straightforward, unstructured form of prose that feels like poetry. Unlike traditional poetry, prose poems do not stick to precise rhyme schemes, metrical patterns, or line breaks, allowing for a more flowing and unrestricted expression of ideas and emotions. This flexibility makes the prose poem an ideal medium for discovering complex themes and stories, providing a unique platform for writers to try the variety and range of language and form. Embraced by contemporary poets worldwide, the prose poem transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries, offering a universal approach to gathering human experience in a deeply personal and innovative way.

Here are the disadvantages of missing this category:

1. By omitting this category, you deprive writers of a powerful tool to express themselves, thereby limiting their creative potential.

2. In the absence of this genre, many readers cannot access the emotions, cognition, and feelings of the creator.

3. Failing to include this genre means not keeping up with the constantly evolving literary landscape, where the prose poem is central. Supporting this genre represents the entirety of creative expression.

4. There is a vibrant community of prose poetry writers whose voices deserve to be heard and nurtured. Including the "Prose Poem" category would foster your connection with the community that loves this specific genre.

Ultimately, adding the Prose Poem genre isn't just about representation; it's about reaffirming Vocal.Media's commitment to fostering creative freedom and embracing diverse forms of writing. By recognizing the Prose Poem genre, you empower writers to explore new avenues of storytelling and enrich the reading experience for your entire community.

I sincerely hope you'll consider this suggestion to include the tag “Prose Poem” in the Tag Box. Thank you for your time and dedication to supporting writers like myself.

Warm Regards

Prose

I appreciate this very much. I write prose and English is my first language. I read translations of prose from other cultures as well. I hope this change happens!
