In the Club with my Best Friend

Occasional Poem

I never imagined saying this, since I was always judgmental of those who go to a club,

I cannot believe a few years ago I considered myself to be above those who drink and party,

However, over time, I discovered that a club does not make a person worthless,

So, every time I hear my boyfriend say he left a place because he saw people drinking and smoking, I get irritated,

I was like him in the past, not realising that I was uneducated,

Anyways, I went to a club with my best friend, and I have no regrets,

In time, my timidness disappeared, determined to not let this moment be useless,

I was not planning on this night with her to be boring, but I made sure I was not careless,

Rejected drinks from men, rejected men when asked to dance, did not give them signs of a chance

Proving that I can still have an incredible time if I am with someone I trust,

I cannot believe I had this thought that people who go to a club are people who do not care about being someone important in life,

But being in the club with my best friend, dancing with her, helped me understand that a club is also a place for people to connect and leave their worries away at home, helped me understand that everyone has their own way of having a good time,

There is nothing wrong with being a mom, being a professor, being a straight A college student, and wanting to have fun at a club. In a club you can have fun however you want,

My way of having fun did not involve getting drunk, just by being with my best friend and her not leaving my side, making sure I was comfortable and did not make me feel left out is what made my first time at the club a moment I will never forgot.

I want to go back there, in the future, hopefully.
