I Can't Even

a free verse poem

I Can’t Even

.

with the barbs,

the bickering,

the condescending

snickering;

.

lack of self-appraisal,

self-awareness,

while teeming

with the careless

.

words and attitudes;

insufferable,

dehumanizing

and intolerable.

.

It’s gone beyond all

reasonable limits,

but to be clear,

this poem is no gimmick.

.

Don’t lose your mind in the rhyme.

It’s easy to point and accuse;

always them, never me,

theirs the blame, mine the excuse.

    This is a great one, it's snappy and punchy but it has layers. The rhythm is perfect for the subject matter, you read it the first time in a blur, then see the other facets when you read it again!

    “It’s easy to point and accuse; always them, never me” Reminds me of a line in a poem I wrote last year. I really like this one. A lot of emotion and truth.
