Her Smile

Something I wrote a couple of weeks ago.

Did you see?

She was wiping away tears.

You didn't ask her why.

And she never told.

She only smiled.

The next time, you saw.

You saw the cuts on her arm.

She pulled down her sleeve,

But you didn't ask why.

All she did was smile.

You didn't stop her.

You saw her take all those pills.

How could you tell yourself that?

You knew what she planned to do.

But she was able to fool you

With only a smile.

You let her leave.

You believed her lie that she could drive.

In your mind, you had a hunch

Of what was hidden

Behind her smile.

Do you see now?

Look down at her.

You could have saved her.

But did she want to be saved?

She isn't smiling anymore.
