Gritty Watermelon

A sonnet of lost love and a sunny recollection.

Illustration by Bradley Clark at www.bradleyclarkart.com

The bitter air in salty wounded eyes

I’m longing for you on this sweaty night;

But our past has not yet found it’s reprise,

Nor fragrant odor of our past delight.

***

The gritty watermelon’s dance on tongues

Becomes refreshingly discouraging;

When crispy air with song fulfilled our lungs,

This sweeter memory now lingering.

***

I think we’re stopped in time that once was us

Like sparklers blurring cross the misty sky;

An instant we fell in and out of lust,

At ease with echoes that passed sharply by.

***

I hope tomorrow you find happiness...

Like the brisk summer of our coalesce.
