girl

(unraveled)

By Sara Published 2 months ago 1 min read

you thought the yarn doll would never come undone.

you poked at her insides,

the little bits of white softness that peeked out shyly between the holes

until she was empty.

you tore off her three black buttons

to see if they could spin

they could - around your finger.

you ripped off her gingham dress

and left her barefoot.

she is still naked.

and one day

you pulled too hard

because she was still weirdly whole.

(nobody could explain it).

now she is strings,

a tangled knot,

a mess of threads

that could no longer resist being wanted.

play with her loose ends.

she is a girl unraveled.

Amazing poem. Shockingly representative of casual cruelty. Loved it!
