Lightning scratches the sky
Ripping a luminescent wound
Through the inky velvet
Halo of midnight sky.
*****************************
The gods are angry.
These humans have forgotten their place.
Their servitude has gone.
Their idols are shiny toys and cold plastic.
******************************
A bang! An assault!
Thunder booms and echoes around the city.
It is felt in every home, apartment and building.
Wake up humans! Hear us roar!
*******************************
Bow down and repent.
Humble yourselves
And bring your offerings
Of worship and fear, not tokens and currency.
*******************************
Mother Earth stirs.
She hears the call of the gods. Their fury.
She releases her flood
Of tears and anger.
******************************
Stop, Earthlings, and see your pride,
Your greed and your want.
Stop, humans!
Your Mother weeps.

I'm new to the 'writing for real' scene. Previously, I've kept my poetry and writing under wraps in a fancy notebook, but now I've decided to give it a proper go!
I hope you enjoy my work.
