Ah, the avocado. If you consider me, it was not a love at first bite. Its thick, weird lumps encapsulated an inside that I wasn’t sure I wanted to know: a soft patch of green.

But then one spontaneous brunch ensured that everything changed. That’s a nice layer of creamy avocado on toasted bread, mixed with citrus fruits and a dash of salt and pepper – sheer brilliance!

This was not a random episode that came and went. I jumped headlong into avocado – and when I did, the experience was everything I had hoped for and more.

It may be impossible to find another food item as nutritionally potent as avocados. They contain good fats that make your heart very much happy and control sugar levels. But they are filled with fiber that will help you stay fuller for longer and that ensures rapid digestion.

But that's not all! Avocados are rich in potassium which is important for nerves and muscles and also contain high amounts of minerals including folate and vitamin K.

There came a point when I had to include avocados in my meals and the change was amazing. This decreased my fatigue in me and I had more energy after meals. These foods were also rich in good fats which meant that I did not feel hungry and avoided craving sweet products including cookies and cakes.

In fact, the surfeit of vitamins in avocados does not end there. They are used to provide a little bit of a magical taste in a meal. Tomatoes because of their fleshy-creamy taste are good for processing into either guacamole or smoothies or mashed with lemon juice.

Salads are made delightfully; sandwiches are made richer; and they can even be converted into chocolate desserts (yes, you read it right)!

In so doing, we must also accept that there can also be some negative aspects associated with even the most positive things. Avocados have high calories therefore it would be best to moderation.

Further, some avocado pickers with latex allergies may develop reactions to the vegetable. However, with the majority of people, the risks associated with vaping are minimal compared to the positive aspects of the pastime.

But I still love avocados even up to this date. They are healthy foods that can be prepared in many different ways to suit my preferences and still provide my body with essential nutrition.

So, the next time you are at the grocery store and see a bumpy green friend, don’t just dismiss it as a ‘funny-shaped cucumber’; start enjoying it instead. It might just turn out that there is an avocado awakening for you too.

Do you like avocados? Tell me!
