Forty years Ago!

Don’t look back in Anger.

By Dawn EarnshawPublished 10 months ago Updated 10 months ago 1 min read

This is a little free verse expression poetry I wrote at the age of 17 years old, a reflection of my youth.

Once upon a time in a Gamesley Town,

A young girl made the locals frown!

She swore at the world and was sometimes rude,

And her golden skin was severely tattooed,

But she cried in vain,

Her sighs unheard where full of pain,

Her little heart was badly broken,

No words of love to her were ever spoken,

Always ready to do a “dare”

And always struggling with despair,

Often broken and very low,

From her big brown eyes, her tears would flow,

What is this living all about?

Dawn to the world would rave and shout,

Then out of the blue at seventeen,

A boy named John came on the scene,

Dawn raised her head from the maddening crowd,

And screamed “This is me, I’m alive, I’m proud “

Dawn’s life was suddenly filled with gold,

Happiness for her heart to unfold,

Her days at last brimming, full of laughter,

And she lived with John until his passing in the many years of joy and laughter.
