Forgive Me

A Common Road

By Dan R FowlerPublished about a month ago Updated about a month ago 1 min read

Forgive Me

I was just thinking a thought within my mind,

One that wasn’t mean or envious or unkind.

It was a reminder that time moves everyone forward,

Whether words on paper or spoken it moves onward.

It’s not that I mind this motion this advance,

From innocent days to hands trembling perchance.

I beg you forgive me if my fingers twisted and knobby,

And blood around my eyelids giving an illusion of sobbing.

It’s not my intention to look as I do,

As though my body is about to come unglued.

With skin as taunt as if a tanner at work,

It makes me appear as damaged aging artwork.

Forgive me if I shuffle my feet as I lumber along

Towards my destination humming an old song.

It’s my memories that I carry within you see,

Those times of yore when I was young and free.

Forgive me if I stand too long at a vacant mirror,

As the stranger looking back unable to see clearer.

It’s a person, one that’s not familiar to me,

Squinting his eyes to recognize who I might be.

Forgive me if my clothes aren’t anymore,

As when in my youth when they were often adored.

It’s now a time to covet what’s important most,

And let things go that leave little about to boast.

Forgive me if my words seem a bit slurred,

I’m reminded by some that it has occurred.

But it’s not for the lack of trying I falter,

But now bent and trembling, these I can’t alter.

So if you see me along the road of life,

Don’t make remarks that some consider not nice.

For this road that I travel, these last few miles,

I for one could use a helping hand, perhaps a few smiles.
