dregs of coffee over the lilting dissonance of cocorosie.
she pours another cup.
one for me, one for her. this visit was life
with her.
a glimpse at the promise of what could be should
she or i move our world to be nearer to the other.
seduction via caffeine
breakfast in bed: eggs, bread, cheese, marmalade
gentle looks and knowing nods
sharing secrets and laughter
careful touches
emotional intimacy
when we met, i knew,
you were someone i could know
as a best friend, a trusted confidant, and great love.
it has been three years since and
i still know this to
be true.
every look like the first.
full of kindness, understanding, and
love. unlike what i had ever known.
have you fallen repeatedly before?
did you get back up?
or did you stay down, smitten. moved.
i choose the latter
and fall a little more
whenever i see her face.
it’s not that i can’t explain where she takes me when
we share a look,
it’s that i think she goes with me, so i needn’t try.
one of the last nights i was there she
invited me to a bath. pretense to drink,
dish dirt, and dig. truth or dare will always
become truth when you’re stuck in a tub, so why
was i shocked by her question?
“is there something unresolved between us.”
