Expectations

Failing to meet expectations that are not your own may hurt, but one day you realize it never mattered anyway.

Uneasiness falls upon me

weighing heavy on my heart

it’s difficult to breath

the tightness in my chest

sparks my anxiety

anger runs rampant

brain is overwhelmed with emotions

fight or flight

thoughts disturbed

like that of a raging tsunami

I feel the crippling effect

resonating through my body

involuntary shakes take hold of me

Remember

who you are

the best of you

we are perfect

in how we manage our shortcomings

I’m different

I have chosen my own path in life

proud of it

I don’t fit in your frame

nor will I conform

I am me.

Am I not enough for you

my presence is not sufficient

as a human being

just being

must I be chained to your expectations

your whims and desires

not knowing your the bearer of my guilt

tyrannically ruling

judging from your high palace

looking down when it displeases you

as if I’m to pay tribute

know

anything done by force isn’t true love.

Honestly

oh so wise

open your eyes

behind the veil of lies

you will see.

But choose to ignore

all that remains near you

are the parasites

feasting upon you.

Ash, I was pulled in to this the moment I read your subtitle. I love the message you started us off with and it only got better from there! You did a great job describing the anxiety that one might feel in not living up to someones expectations, it felt relatable and was very on point form my experience. I love the lines “Remember, who you are” I actually have that tattooed on my arm, so this really resinated with me! Overall this was such an emotionally evoking and well written piece! I thoroughly enjoyed the read!
