Dublin City Sky
A Poem
When I saw her outside,
a light I pretended
I could not find.
She reminded me of you
O, what a sight!
This is my story
of that cold Dublin night...
\\
I strolled over
and gave her a fright:
"How'ya love, d'ya have a light?"
"Jaysus! Ya scared me ya little shite!"
"Don't worry, darlin' I won't bite"
She laughed at that
whilst sparking me up
casually asking,
"So, what's up?"
"How dya mean?"
"Well hun, ya have the saddest eyes I've ever seen..."
\\
It was right about then
that she asked me your name
instinctively I dropped
my head in shame,
"It doesn't matter,
'cause I fucked that up"
She killed her smoke,
touched my cheek
and wished me luck.
\\
Watching the puddles
I sighed,
"Uhh, fuck.."
pulled out my pen
and this little notebook and wrote:
You're not here,
underneath
this Dublin City Sky
not enough truth
to outweight the lie.
I held you so close
let me cry, let me cry
beneath this Dublin City Sky
\\
Filling your absence
with cardboard loves
on a tightrope,
no balance
alone
in the city sky
above.
I watch the clouds
take your shape
and reach and fall
into lost loves
gape
And as I plunge
into my fate
the Dublin City Sky,
flashes her last goodbye.
\\
She reminded me of you
on this cold Dublin night,
underneath this city sky
the place where both
You and I,
left eachother
out to dry

Beautifully written, a bittersweet poem
Melancholy!!! Left a ♥
Well done, this reads like a song.
Beautifully written. I love the cadence of the conversation. I can hear the Irish accent as I'm reading.
I loved how you brought such a melancholy story to life in so few words and beautifully too. Their little conversation was a brilliant add. Great work :)
This is a wonderful, engaging poem with so many emotions and some truly beautiful lines. I really loved the part about watching the clouds take her shape. Great job! :)
Well that's heartbreak in a beautiful nutshell of a poem.
Beautiful story! Love the imagery and really felt the last few stanzas
This is a beautiful piece, filled with melancholy and introspection. Very well done.
