Dr. Dinosaur

A Sonnet

An AI Generated Image

I am a dusty fossil, dry and old

My lectures include no bright, flashing slides

When the words of the text are ductile gold

Behind shiny distractions, their truth hides

Mere existence, itself, is triggering

Life comes with no tidy content warning

We indulge too much fraught malingering

Anxiety is our only feeling

The pursuit of knowledge, we find boring

A perfect GPA is our real goal

Standardized testing makes remembering

Of cognition, the rote, robotic whole

I am a dinosaur, out of fashion

For education, I’ve lost my passion

Sonnet

We need to teach our kids how to learn and how to find things when they need something. At the same time, survival skills and creativity should be prioritized. Spending more time in nature as observers, not as destroyers..

  • "Mere existence, itself, is triggering Life comes with no tidy content warning" Gosh this hit me so sad because it was extremely relatable. Loved your poem!

What the heck does ductile even mean...googling...rereading...I am still advocating for a new way of learning...we have changed the landscape...change the old ways. Freedom from boredom and debt. Poetry of food for thought. Kudos.

They find it hard to exert themselves, to delve deep, to research.. it is easier to read snippets and boom, know it all. Great piece!! Dinosaur sonnet for the challenge?😍

Why learn about stuff when you can find it online if needed? Sad.

I read this poem like I felt that dinosaurs are looking for a purpose in life with the flow of life in college. I don't know if it's true or not. I like your poem.

I hear you. I love to learn. I used to love to teach too but it lost its lustre. Sounds like it's just another box to tick for them rather than a love for what they can acquire to extend themselves. And we live to be entertained and this needs to be transferred to education too. Crap, innit?
