Projects laid out, but never finished.
The clutter of the mind never diminished.
When will my work ever be complete?
It will happen at my heart's final beat
There is no finished work that we are meant to enjoy
Only ideas and ventures this life will employ
The effort-filled struggles
The every day-to-day
A work forever in progress
Until we go away
Our hearts ever mourning
Our hands left to shake
The core of the earth
Forever meant to quake
Darkness creeps in slowly
In contrast to light
But somehow there is comfort
In eyes taking in this sight.
In darkness there is peace
Calmness; life is still.
A moment in time
There is no need to fill.
For it is filled with this stillness;
This calm, and this void.
No need to push onward
Or feel like a droid.
A time when there is silence
And no obligations
No waking restlessness
No plans or vacations.
There is no urgency to go;
And nowhere to be.
Just a location so present
And surprisingly free.
If this is the end,
Perhaps, I'll rejoice.
No need for alarm
Or to raise my voice.
I don't have to trudge on;
While hearing just chatter.
I can focus on nothingness
Which somehow does matter.
No noises, no voices
No alarm bells just ringing
Just an absence, a stillness;
A silent song singing.
Was this the doom we feared
And kept pushing away?
No, it is here
That I choose to stay.
This silence is present.
This mood is as is.
It isn't unhuman
Or a way no one else lives.
Emotions are normal
Anxiety is too.
Depression, though an ailment
Is natural too.
We are filled with these things
And many of them matter
This is not simply a world
Where we all live happily after.
Sharing our struggles
Both yours and mine
Is the best way
To begin the climb.
And when we fall
Into the darkness
Because we all do.
It is okay to stay there
For just a few.
Darkness must be present.
To appreciate the light.
It is calm and quiet there
And sometimes it is too bright.
