Cuckoo's Escape

12.12.23

By Katrina ThornleyPublished 7 months ago 1 min read

Finality of statements

Spoken with the clicking

Of clock hands

Sting through

And echo in empty hallways,

Out of time

Out of time

Out of time

Reminders thrown

Of shortcomings

And lost threads

Meant to follow through

But tangle in the end-

Pendulum marks speed

Of the demise

We wished to ignore

Like the sound of the second hand

Tapping away,

Stealing moments from us

That we believed

Would last forever-

How they dwindle down

With the passing of time,

Until the hands meet

At designated space

And the Cuckoo flies the nest

Leaving behind

A hollow space

To be filled only

By the sound of the ticking.

  • This was so profound and poignant. Loved your poem!

  • Ask not for whom the hands meet, they meet for thee. Tick-tock, tick-tock....

Those moments do fly away, don't they? This is beautifully written.
