Cinco de Mayo! A day for celebration! A day for gluttony! And so tourists' cacophonous cheers
Ring out across the Americas as party goers find any excuse to eat and drink, raising their margaritas to toast
Unencumbered by ignorance. This day is any other day in Mexico. This day is
Not the Mexican Independence Day! Yet she smiles her tourist best, her jaw falling agape, to see children paraded all across the tourist traps, walking on streets crunchy with confetti, overrun with ringing metal lids from overflowing trash cans, and sidewalks mushy with spilt carnitas, kid size
Churros falling from tiny hands, bumped into and spun round, as the crowd rushes past, their excitement growing as the all-consuming street festival begins anew, on the hour, every hour! Yet another moneymaking
Holiday, non-holiday, triumphant in its misconceptions.

You had me at margaritas! … but I totally understand how everything gets commercialised and oversold these days. Great acrostic Christy!
I take your point. Its not something I have ever "celebrated", as I just dont have the understanding of it. Even without that, there is a fine balance, I think, between grabbing the fun where we find it, and turning everything into a commercial opportunity.
great acrostic
What a fun acrostic! Made me hungry though.
"Let's have a beer anyway!" (Typical U.S. reaction.) Great acrostic, Christy!
