Comfort in Myself

Some days I look in this mirror with pride,

There’s nothing about myself I wish to hide.

I’m perfect in my own eyes,

Like any other person, I have lows and I have highs.

So, outside of this door I will go without a hair out of place,

I walk down this road with an Earth-shattering smile at a medium pace.

The mind is famous for the tricks it will play,

It will make you want to hide inside and stay.

Onward you must travel, deep into the crowd,

Anxiously behaving the I think I am allowed.

Tired of standing in front of the mirror pondering what outfit they would prefer for today,

Wondering who I make proud and who I dismay.

The opinions of others are not meant to be mine,

With a brave look on my face but fear in my heart, I walk on with a whine.

Shoulder to shoulder, how will I measure,

But I’ll tell you my secret to self-love with pleasure.

I broke out of the mould quite some time ago,

I walked out of that door satisfied with my natural glow.

So put on that plaid shirt with those stripe pants if it works,

They’ll have to accept all your woes and your quirks.

Yourself is the only person you should seek to impress,

Only you to decide for yourself what is best.

With that you will surely be leading the pack,

If travel, start travelling with the wind at you back.

Those stares and their judgments might sting with a burn,

This next part is the hardest lesson to learn.

You are who you are and you do it so well,

Be true to yourself and your pride it will swell.

Your tribe will stand by you through thick and through thin,

When you believe in yourself, I am certain you will win.

Pay attention to the heads that you turn,

They are your tribe and your trust they will earn.

So walk out that door with your head to the sky,

Take in these lessons, with relief you will sigh.
