Please do not break my heart again

I ask this of my fellow man

Understand that it is a sin

To take away their precious land

*

Enjoy the colors that fill the sky

Watch as the air lifts their wing

Let your heart join them as they fly

Enjoy the song that they will sing

*

Leave the young in their nest

They are not for you to take

Do not become a wanton pest

Enjoy the beauty for its sake

*

Walk away from this wrongful path

Or feel the fury of nature’s wrath

The above poem was written while thinking about the Scarlett Macaw. Both the destruction of its habitat and poachers are endangering this species.
