Childhood Sweethearts

Where does love go when you grow?

I look at you and feel nothing but

sadness for who we used to be.

The boy and girl next door who

faced the world together;

now adults, strangers,

but too afraid

to let go.

Are we...

done?

    Wow, I can feel the pain of facing up to the truth here. This is a beautiful poem.

    I had a childhood sweetheart. His parents (for reasons of their own) separated us. After reuniting when we reached adulthood, we'd both changed so much, the boy I loved so desperately was gone and the man a total stranger I could barely like never mind love. Life can change so much.
