Cancerous Burn

Decision Made

By Katrina ThornleyPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I.

Cigarettes burn,

Ember bright in the night,

Flames of hope,

And bitter endings

Leading the gaze

Of star-crossed lovers-

That have wandered far

From path paved.

II.

Expectations waved

In response to plan

And wandering minds,

Roots tripping,

Catching thought sure-footing,

Threats of tumbles

With cigarette flicker in mind.

III.

Voyage underway,

With glances back

Trees and rocks moved

Covering path where came-

Darkness behind

Where once sure bright-

And minds wonder

The reason for following

Cancerous brilliance

In flickering flame.

Time flashed,

Cementing their choice

To chase the flame,

In haste and cunning--

Before burn out.
