Bitter Sips

& the comfort of mornings

Bitter Sips

when the morning has begun

before my mind can work or play

i long for your touch upon my lips,

bitter sweetness of old world and new.

.

taken by most with white, i prefer the same

as pupils gazing upon their beloved,

as the holes stitched in the universe

pulling apart the fabric of reality.

.

curling into you, hot in my hands,

warming both throat and soul;

with you i commiserate the end of sleep

and welcome the dawn of a new day.

.

when our time together has ended

i feel sad, but complete

and await the trails of today

with the taste of you upon my lips.
